Creative Exercises

One way that I’m trying to stay motivated is by switching up how I write. A few exercises I’ve always used are creating storyboards and writing blurbs that fit my story for the images I find, and creating soundtracks to put me in the right headspace to write. Here are those resources that I’ve created for “First Time for Everything.”

Image Storyboard

Pinterest has become my go-to place for storyboarding. As a primarily image-based website, it allows me to find faces for the characters I've created, piece together a setting, collect quotes that match the "vibe" of my story, and more. An exercise that I sometimes use to get the creative juices flowing is picking an image from my storyboard and writing a scene for my story using what's in the picture. Story Soundtrack

Spotify is a similar site that I use in my prewriting. Since I listen to a lot of music, I'm usually able to create playlists of songs that capture themes I want to explore in my writing, or the inner monologues of some of my characters. I'll either put the soundtrack on while I write, or I'll play a specific song and try to write a scene based on the lyrics.
